Why this topic for a podcast?

I run several podcasts.

My first was The Write Stuff where I do longer interviews with successful women. My goal with these is to gain some insight into areas like writing, marketing, social media and even podcasting. And to help grow the lesbian fiction and business community, through these shared insights. That show takes a lot of time to create and so I only run about 20 episodes once a year.

I have had some amazing interviewees on there like Jae, Renee J Lukas and Suzie Carr.

My second was Les Talk About It. This podcast is a talk show that is aimed at busting myths around lesbianism. I struggled to find inner peace with myself when I first came out and I want to reach out to other lesbians and let them know that it is totally okay to be themselves.

I also record The Lesbian Review Podcast which is a podcast spinoff of my review website The Lesbian Review.

And I run short season podcasts for the Ask A …series. So far I have had Ask A Butch and Ask A Bisexual.

If someone is new to your podcast, how would you describe it?

The Write Stuff is a 40min to 1 hour podcast that gives you insights into business topics in order to help women succeed.

Les Talk About It is a fun look at being a women and lesbian. We add in research that we found and discuss popular myths like lesbian bed death, who is the man in the relationship and we discuss sex a lot.

What kind of person will enjoy your podcast most?

Authors and publishers who want to improve their businesses will enjoy The Write Stuff.

Women who are lesbian or bisexual will enjoy Les Talk About It. Although, I do hope that it breaks those barriers and just becomes an interesting listen for people who are curious about others.

What is the biggest reward of being a podcaster?

I love it when listeners engage with us. I enjoy hearing about how we made them laugh or how my own confession was so similar to theirs. But then I have always loved connecting with women and sharing information.

What is the biggest challenge of being a podcaster?

My biggest challenge with creating the podcast is to resolve the issues we discuss. In the nature of the topics we talk about the answer very often comes down to everyone is individual and that doesn’t always make me feel satisfied that we have covered the topic well. Tamara helps with this by doing some great research, though.

In terms of running the entire podcasting channel, my biggest challenge is getting new listeners to find us. So if you love what we do please share and spread the word.

What would listeners find most interesting/surprising/unique about you?

I really struggled to come out. It took me years. And it wasn’t anything to do with my family, but rather the bullying that I had gone through at school. From very young, people called me lesbian as if it was the worst thing in the world and I developed this hatred for being a lesbian. It took a lot for me to finally admit it to myself and then even more to finally admit it to the rest of the world. Lesbian fiction really helped me with this. If it wasn’t for Karin Kallmaker and Radclyffe, I don’t think I would ever have found happiness.

Today still I face homophobia in the job market specifically and it is one of the reasons that I am so driven to create lesbian positive content.

I want to reach people who are miserable or self depreciating because they are attracted to women. I want them to realize that it is okay and I want them to realize that being themselves is beautiful and natural and not at all the toxic thing it is made out to be.

And so, I make sure to post positive messages on social media about being a lesbian and I review great lesbian fiction and now I run this podcast channel.
